Mr. John Henry Johnson, 59, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born March 13, 1966, the youngest child of Clark Johnson Sr., and Marie Pam.
John Henry grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he graduated from Southeast High School. He was a loving brother, uncle, and father who was cherished by everyone he met. He was an employee of UMKC for 36 years, serving as a boiler and HVAC operator.
He was a member at New Bethel Church where he had a thirst for the knowledge of God’s Word. He faithfully attended Sunday School and New Bethel’s “Share the Word Ministry” services at Washington Heights Senior Facility the 2nd Saturday of each month, where he participated in expounding on the Word of God and testifying until his health declined.
John Henry Johnson passed away on January 05, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark Johnson Sr. and Marie Pam; and two brothers, Clark Johnson Jr, and Royce Gilreath.
John Henry leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Jason Matthews, grandson, Jason Matthews Jr. He also leaves to cherish his memory three brothers, Larry (Janice)Gilreath, Clifton Gilreath of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Robert Lee (Carolyn) Gilreath of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six sisters, Louise Hopkins of Copperas Cove, Texas, Loretha Fobbs of Marion, Ohio, Edna Ross of Converse, Texas, Laura Clemons of Englewood, Colorado, Marsetta (Truman) Garlington of Kansas City, Kansas, and Sandy (Dan) Billing of Princeton, Texas. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
