Joe Lewis Obituary

Life’s Reflections

Joe W. Lewis was born in Scott, Arkansas, on December 29, 1940 to Frank Lewis and Drucillar Miller who preceded him in death.

Joe accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He attended Nelson High School in Scott, Arkansas.  Looking for a better way of life, his journey led him and his brother Floyd to Kansas City, Kansas to join his mother and sister, Elizabeth.  Joe retired from Associated Grocers after 35 years of service.

Joe could accomplish anything he set his mind to.  He had a strong love for music and played multiple instruments by ear.  As a teenager, he taught himself to play the Guitar, Piano, Drums and Organ.  He was also a very gifted singer and enjoyed singing and playing instruments with his brothers.  In addition to music, he had an affinity for competing and loved playing billiards, dominoes, and card games.

Joe W. Lewis departed this life on June 27, 2020.  He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Lewis and Drucillar Miller.  His sister, Elizabeth Richmond Lee; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Richmond; Robert Lewis; Floyd Lewis; and George Lewis.

He leaves to cherish his memory, 8 children from 3 Unions: Chief Warrant Officer 5 Charles Lewis (Carla) of North Carolina; Sergeant Troy Lewis (Develyn); Mary Lewis; Linda Harris; and LaTonia F. Lewis (Darryl) of Arkansas; Chante Lewis (DeMoine) of Georgia; Aaron Lewis and Isaac Lewis of Missouri.

Joe will be remembered by his sister, Lucinda Scott of Arizona. His sisters, Ella Butler; Juanita Seamster; Joyce A. Butler; and brother, Walter Lewis all of Kansas. From Arkansas, he will be remembered by brothers, Roosevelt Lewis; Nathaniel Lewis (Evelyn); and Andrew Lewis; his sisters, Betty Jean Sabb; Betty Joe Johnson; and Florene Jackson. He will also be remembered by his sister, Martha Jean Lewis from Illinois, a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
