Jinnie Mae Lockettt, 88, passed away on April 6, 2026, at KU Medical Center. She was born July 22, 1937, to Lucille Anderson-Bowie and James Bowie in Rayville, LA. They preceded her in death.
She joined Gospel Temple Baptist Church in 1952 under Rev. John Shavers and was baptized at an early age.
She attended Sunday School and was a junior usher. She also belonged to the Florist Club and believed in helping as a flower girl at funerals.
She attended Coleman High School in Pine Bluff, AR and graduated in 1959.
In 1960, she relocated to Kansas City and joined Antioch Baptist Church.
In 1961, she married the love of her life, Fillmore Lockett. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1969.
To this union, four sons were born, Millard Lockett, Edward Lockett, (preceded her in death January 3, 2016) Jeffrey Lockett, and Gary Lockett.
She worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a maintenance worker and worked in Food Services in the School District 500 for many years before spending 13 years as a Foster Grandparent in the School District 500 in Wyandotte County. During election years, she worked at the County Elections for many years.
While attending Antioch Baptist Church under the late A.D. Banks, she sung in the choir and was the Director of Sunbeams. She would escort her four sons to 6:00 AM Early Morning Sunday Service. She was a Sunday Teacher. In addition, to serving on the Usher Board.
She loved attending church and would travel all around Kansas City to hear good singing and preaching and loved to travel to Lincoln, NE to hear her youngest son, Bishop Gary Lockett preach the gospel.
She had two Sister, Clara Jenkins and Rosie Suell, four brothers, James Bowie Jr., Howard Bowie and Henry Bowie and Frederick Bowie that all preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Millard Lockett, Omaha, NE, Jeffrey (Shelly) Lockett, Belton, MO. and Gary (Donetta) Lockett, Lincoln, NE.
In addition to 15 grandchildren, Gary II, Jessica, Marcus, Juwan, Shantanique, Javon, Malika, Gabriella, Gary Jr., Finest, David, Akumdria, Darwin and Alejandro which preceded her in death, and 31 great grandchildren, Nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She wanted to be sure to acknowledge her three best friends for over 50 years, Shirley Kellum, Mary Porter and Doris Reliford.
