Jeannette Ann Newton, 81 passed away on April 26, 2025 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on December 21, 1943 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to James F. Oliver and Rose Jean Oliver. Jeannette grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and attended the District 500 School District at Washington High School.
After school Jeannette worked at Swingsters in Bonner Springs, Kansas. She then began working at Edwardsville Manor as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) where she retired after over 30 years.
Jeannette absolutely loved to cook and try new and different recipes. When she could no longer physically cook in the kitchen that didn’t stop her from teaching and giving cooking lessons and instructions to her healthcare providers and others from her bed. She also handmade afghans for anyone who asked for them and gave them out as gifts in your favorite colors. She would also give teaching lessons on crocheting upon request.
Jeannette was the life of the every party and was full of jokes and pranks being bed bound did not stop her from having fun.
Jeannette married Grady Newton Sr on March 17, 1963. They were happily married for 30 years when he passed away on September 6, 1993.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her father, James F. Oliver Sr., her mother Rose Jean Oliver, her step mother Mary Oliver, her brother Raymond Williams, her sister Janice Banks, her daughter DeAnne Newton-Santos and her grandson Christian Blake Newton.
Jeannette is survived by her sons Mark Newton of Kansas City, Missouri and Grady Newton Jr of Overland Park, Kansas her daughter LaWanda Newton-Henderson (Tony) of Kansas City, Kansas, brother James Oliver Jr (Staci) of O’Fallon, Illinois, sisters Sandy Thrower of Kansas City, Missouri, Priscilla Simpson, Mary Oliver-Davenport, Marilyn Rogers and sister/cousin Pamela Anderson (Delroy Thomas) all of Kansas City, Kansas, grandchildren Ashley McGee (Tyrone), Cameron Newton both of Kansas City, Kansas, Nicholas White of Chicago, Illinois, Chase McGhee (Madison) of Overland Park, Kansas, Alyssa Newton (Aaron) and Ciara Newton both of Baltimore, Maryland, 14 great grandchildren, a very special aunt Mary Kimbrough and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jeannette is also survived by her beloved dog Snowball.
