James Norman Cogshell was born Saturday, February 6, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the second of six children born to James and Virginia Cogshell.
“Jimmy” or ‘Cogshell” as he was affectionally known, became a member of Trinity A.M.E., where he was baptized at an early age. He attended Kealing elementary school, then Northeast Junior High. He attended and graduated from Sumner High School, Proud Class of 1961.
He married Kathryn Johnson, and two children Lyndell and Lisa were blessings from this union.
Jimmy was later drafted into the U. S. Army, assignment Vietnam. After returning home, he began working for General Motors. After an extended time at G.M., he headed west, to Los Angels California. There he began his entrepreneurship as a skilled craftsman and executive Limo operator.
His ability to create and design with his hands was his blessing. He was always called to help remodel, build or repair homes and businesses.
Jimmy’s forte was to be fashionably dressed. Even if he was just hanging around the house, he was stylishly dapper. He loved to relax listening to his Jazz Collection with his family and friends.
God called Jimmy home early Wednesday, June 14, 2023, where he was surrounded by family.
Jimmy was proceeded in death by both parents and three siblings: Sarah Prado, William Cogshell, and Dennis Cogshell. A nephew and two great nephews.
He is survived by his loving son Lyndell (Stephanie) of Houston, committed and affectionate daughter Lisa Grant (Fred) of Liberty, MO. His two grandsons Daryl Obie-Cogshell, and Seth Cogshell. His siblings Bonnie Henson and Wesley Cogshell and his brother-in-law Raul Prado.
Jimmy will be sorely missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
