Jacqueline Stephenson was born in Bastrop, Texas, the only child of Sylvester Hill and Maude Page. She is preceded in death by her parents and her Aunt Mary Kirkland.
Jackie, as she was known to most, moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1962 and graduated from Sumner High School in 1965. She pursued her passion for education at the Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) where she earned her degree in 1969 and set out to help shape the future of many young minds. In 1971 she married Ronald Stephenson and together they welcomed their son, Ronald Scott. Jackie dedicated her career to enhancing childhood education, initially working for the state of Missouri to license daycares and later becoming a Child Care Teacher for the Kansas City Missouri Public School District where she played an instrumental role in starting the Parents as Teachers Program. She later became an Adjunct Professor at Donnelley College where she continued her commitment to education until her retirement.
Church was one of Jackie’s favorite places to be. She was an active and dedicated member of Trinity AME Church for over six decades and served in a number of positions throughout those years. As the Youth Choir Director, she instilled a love for music, and her guidance as Vacation Bible School Director created lasting memories for many. Her enthusiasm as a Sunday School Teacher showed her dedication to nurturing faith in others, and she always brought warmth and joy wherever she served. She enjoyed watching sports, cooking, doing word find puzzles, sharing words of comfort and encouragement, and fellowshipping with friends.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her son Ronald Scott of Parkville, Missouri, and a host of truly good friends, former students, and cousins.
