John Darryl Pride, Sr. was born on July 5, 1955, to John and Effiesten Pride in Kansas City Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eric and Acen.
John was affectionately known as JD, Daddy, Uncle John, Mr. John and Popa. He received his education from Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1974.
John worked for Santa Fe Railroad and Kansas City, Kansas Public schools until he retired in 2018.
John married the love of his life, Rene Jumper, on June 11, 1977. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved his family and was always there for them. He was a great handy man and could fix anything. Whenever something needed to be repaired, he would be Johnny on the spot. There was nothing he wouldn’t tackle. He never met a stranger, always had something funny to say and kept you laughing.
John had a love for cars. He could look at a vehicle and tell the make, model and year off the top of his head. He also had a love for model cars which he began building at the early age of nine, competing and winning the competition. John enjoyed putting model cars together and precisely detailing them as if they were real cars. He loved talking to his grandson (Jaylon) about cars and teaching him the things he learned over the years. John also had a love for fish and all things aquatic. He and his grandson (John III) managed aquariums and he was a member of the Heart of America Aquarium Society. John loved show casing his model cars and aquariums in his man cave.
John had a special love for his granddaughters (Madison and McKinley). He loved spoiling, joking and spending quality time with them. He also loved music, all types but jazz was his favorite.
John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior at an early age.
John leaves to cherish his loving memory: wife, Rene Pride; son, John D. Pride II (Jimmica); daughter, Kellie C. Cage; grandchildren, John D. Pride III, Jaylon D. Pride, Madison D. Cage, McKinley D. Cage; sisters, Brenda Bass, Linda Jumper, ReRe Estell; brothers, Gregory Phillips (Nina) and Robert Evans; special adopted daughter, Ebony Gordon (Nurse/Caregiver) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
