Jannie (Jan Ervin) Marshbanks was born on April 30, 1930 to the union of Calvin and Allie Drummond in Council, Alabama. She was 7th of 8 children. Her family moved to Harlan, Ky while she was a young child and then to Knoxville, Tn in 1941.
She received her formal education in the Knoxville public schools. While attending Austin High School she was a cheerleader and played on the basketball team. She graduated in 1949.
In 1950, Jan married Curtis Lee Hardge to this union 3 daughters were born, Sharion, Deborah and Alberta.
Jan moved to Kansas City, Mo in 1955 to further her education. She completed her studies and training to receive her Radiologic Technologist Certificate. She met Percy Ervin and in 1965 they were married. The last 2 of her 5 girls were born to this union, Tina and Rhoda.
She was employed for over 22 years at Samuel Rodgers Health Center (Formerly Wayne Miner Health Center) as the head of the radiology department. After a brief retirement, she returned to the workforce at Swope Parkway Health Center. She continued in the workforce for another 12 years.
Jan was a member of Centennial United Methodist Church for over 60 years and served on various boards and committees. While attending, she met James Marshbanks, affectionately known as "Pops", to whom she married in 2004.They were happily married until his passing.
Jan enjoyed bowling, gardening, listening to music, playing cards and watching sports. She was a die-hard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals.
Her greatest joy came from being with her family. She was affectionately known as "Momma" or "Granny" to not only her children and grandchildren but to family and friends alike. Her nurturing spirit was felt by all who encountered her.
Jan departed this life on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings and grandson (Duwan Hardge).
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters Sharion Hardge of Kansas City, Ks, Deborah Nichols of Sandy Springs, Ga, Alberta (Jonald) Jones of Knoxville, Tn, Tina (Leonard) White of Kansas City, MO and Rhoda (Sylvester) Basey of Dallas, Ga. 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great
grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
