James Wesley Mayfield 84 passed away July 4, 2021, at his home in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on July 8, 1936, in Chanute, Kansas to Edward and Susie B. Ponder Mayfield, James grew up in Chanute, Kansas. He graduated from Chanute High School in Chanute, Kansas.
After high school he joined the army in 1959 and served for 2 years. He served in the Korean War, shortly after he began to work for the US Postal Service as a truck driver, where he worked for 34 years. He retired in 1995. He held the title of Union President.
James married Gloria in 1980 in Kansas City, Kansas. They were happily married for 41 years. James was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, were he served as a trustee, and as an usher he enjoyed fishing, farming, and cooking.
James was preceded in death by his parents Edward Mayfield and Susie B Mayfield, his brothers, Clarence Mayfield; Willis Mayfield; Richard Mayfield; sisters, Ruth Turner; Phyllis Moore; Judith Puckett; two sons, Tony Mayfield; and Steven Mayfield.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Mayfield; seven sons, James Wesley Mayfield II (Sandie); Timothy Mayfield; Dennis Mayfield Sr. (Judy); John Mayfield Sr.; Clayton Mayfield; Clarence Mayfield Sr. (Ronyalle); and Clifton Mayfield; a host of grandchildren; and great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
