Life’s Reflections
On December 7, 1932 a daughter, Ida Rose was born in Conway, Arkansas to Eldridge Harvey and Mary Henrietta Bunting Harvey. She was the third eldest child. She entered eternity, Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Ida Rose was reared in Conway, Arkansas. She attended and graduated from the former Caney Elementary and Pine Street High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science at the former A.M.& N. College of Pine Bluff, Arkansas (presently University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff).
Ida Rose moved to Kansas City, Missouri in May,1955. Here she met and married William Dockery on October 30,1955. To this union two children were born. Rosemary Florence Dockery and William Dockery Jr.
She later attended and graduated from the former Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing and received a degree as a Registered Nurse.
She united with Shawnee Primitive Baptist Church in March,1983 and remained an active member until her passing. At Shawnee, she loved singing hymns, assisting communion preparation, and serving others. Later in life she moved to Kansas City, Kansas with her daughter she extended her service became a member under Watch Care at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. She served by greeting members with hugs and kisses.
She had been a Registered Nurse since 1963. She was employed as registered nurse at Veterans Administration Hospital. She spent the rest of her career as a school nurse with Kansas City, Missouri School District until she retired.
She was a member of Missouri Nurses Association, American School Health Association, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Kansas City School Health Club, 39th. & Euclid Street Block Club, the Greater K.C American Red Cross, A.M.&N. Alumni Association, Volunteered at The Greater K.C. Heart Association, Volunteered 3 days a week , total of 3 hours at the Palestine Senior Activity Center, Volunteered with an organization indexing names of Funeral Homes Records and Cemetery Records to be used as research and attended monthly meetings for 3900 Euclid Block Club, Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council, Beautification and Crime Committees.
She enjoyed spending time doing puzzles, exercise, reading scriptures, visited with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Proceeding her death: her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Eldridge Harvey, her husband William Dockery Sr., her brothers: Otis, Samuel, Eddie Gene and Elroy Harvey.
She leaves to Cherish her Memories: her daughter, Rosemary Florence Maltbia (Hansel Jr.), Kansas City, Kansas; son, William Dockery Jr. (Deborah) Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her siblings: James (Lou) and Joseph of Los Angeles, California; Thomas and Charles of Kansas City, Missouri; Arthur Ray and Father Warren of Conway, Arkansas; Ruth Mae Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Shirley Fuller of Conway, Arkansas; Patie Barnes of Austin Texas; grandchildren: Denia Reid (Collin) of Dallas, Texas; Hansel Maltbia III (Kimberly) and Sharome Maltbia of Kansas City, Kansas; LaTeshia Dockery and Trevor Dockery of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great grandchildren: De’Lyana Maliyah and Hansel Maltbia IV of Kansas City, Kansas; One special friend, Florence Odom Weathersby, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
