In Loving Memory Of
Herman Lee Block
Born October 29, 1929 in the small community of Antioch near Prescott, Arkansas to the union of Hattie Mae Carter and Tennyson Block. Herman was the fourth eldest of nine children. He was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. Herman graduated as the Valedictorian of his class from Blevins Training School in Blevins, Arkansas. Soon afterwards he began working for an Ammunition Plant in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Prior to leaving for Kansas City, Kansas his daughter, Mary Marshall was born. After settling there he married Betty Jo Graham and to this union two children were born, Donald Ray Block and Beverly Yvonne Block Barksdale.
Herman was a hard worker and great provider. He retired as a steel worker from FairBanks and Morse, he also had a green thumb in gardening and a knack for lawn manicuring. Herman enjoyed watching Animal Planet and sports especially basketball. He enjoyed his family.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, A.D. Block; Tennyson Calvin “T.C” Block; James Elwood Block; Charles Block; Katherine Perkins and Mattie Lee Block.
He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Mary Marshall (Robert); Donald R. Block (Lydia) and Beverly Y. “DeeDee” Barksdale (Paul); five grandchildren, Shawanna (Tim); Robert Jr.; Marius; Keanna; Kelyn (Mandy); nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Jewel Johnson and Esterlean Scott; his longtime companion Daisy Armstrong; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
