Life’s Reflection
Herbert Solomon Holmes, age 76 entered heaven's gates on August 15, 2020, at his home surrounded by his closest loved ones. He was born on August 23, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas to James and Dora Holmes. He grew up right here in Kansas City and graduated from Washington High School. After high school he made the courageous decision to defend his country and serve in the United States Airforce as a Military Police Officer. He served from 1960-1968 and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He ended his tour as a Sergeant and from there made Chicago, Illinois his home. He began to work for the Chicago Transit Authority, with his brother and many other veterans. He later went on to work as a truck driver for many years all while becoming a husband and a father. He was a simple man as well as a hard worker. Herbie took a great deal of pride in caring for his family whom he loved very much.
Herbie is preceded in death by his parents, James and Dora Holmes; his siblings, Doraline; James Jr.; Wanda; Linda; Harold; and Howard (Sonny).
He is survived with so much love by his children, Danny (Carmen) Holmes; and Jamie Holmes. As well as his two sisters, Hazel; and Carolyn. Herbie is also survived by many loving grandchildren including his grandson, Christopher Holmes, whom he dedicated his love and devotion to raising. His life and legacy are also celebrated by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
