Henry Walker, II Obituary

Henry A. “Al” Walker, II was born February 26, 1971 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas to Henry A. Walker and Joyce Freeman-Walker.  The family moved to the Bay Area in 1974 when Al was three so that his father could attend graduate school.  As part of an academic family, Al experienced life in several states.  He attended elementary school in Connecticut and California, junior high school in California and high school in California and Iowa.  He began living on his own in Iowa City, Iowa at age 18.  He moved to Ithaca, NY in 1998 and to Tucson, Arizona in 2000.  He purchased a home in southwest Tucson in 2002 and lived there until his passing.

Al was involved in a serious auto accident at age 12 that left him partially disabled.  He poured most of his energy into music which was his passion.  His musical tastes varied from Metallica to Miles Davis and from Al B. Sure! and Amy Winehouse to ZZ Top.  He spent hours teaching himself to play drums and guitar and composing tunes with his music machines.  He uploaded many of his clips to the internet trying to sell the music he created and loved.

Al passed away on March 18, 2025 at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson after a weeks-long battle with several debilitating conditions.  He is survived by his parents, Henry and Joyce Walker of Oro Valley, AZ, his sister, Marlicia (Thomas) Thaxton, two nieces and a nephew (Evelyn, Madeline and William Thaxton) all of Hillsboro, Oregon and many relatives on the Freeman and Walker sides of his family.

Al will be buried near his beloved grandmother, Beatrice “Nanny” Freeman, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, KS.  At his request, there will be no public memorial service.  Family members are invited to attend graveside services at a time to be arranged by Thatcher’s Funeral Home.
