Life Reflection
With grace, strength, and unwavering faith, Helen Louise McFeders-Kelsey-Keith lived a life full of love, service, and devotion. Born on May 25, 1925, in Sedalia, MO, to Theodore Sr. and Edessie Walls-McFeders, Helen was a beacon of light to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and brothers, Theodore Jr. and Harold.
Helen's early years were spent in Wichita, KS, where she attended grade and middle school. At just 14 years old, she made a lifelong commitment to her faith, accepting Jesus Christ and being baptized at Calvary Baptist Church. Her spiritual journey continued when she moved to Slater, MO, to live with her grandparents, Charles and Josie Walls. There, she joined the Baptist Church of Slater and graduated from Dalton Vocational High School in 1944.
In 1945, Helen married Charles Kelsey, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming 13 children into their lives. Though she mourned the loss of Reginald (Tony), Michael, Darryl, and Nina Lee, her heart remained full with love for her surviving children: Sharon VanRoss, Cordell Kelsey (Gretta), Donna Kelsey, Adrienne Kelsey, Mark Kelsey (Carmen), Charles Kelsey Jr., Gregory Kelsey, Chrystal Henderson, and Nikita Thomas.
Helen found love again and married Harry Keith in 1981. He, too, preceded her in death, but their time together was filled with joy and companionship.
A devoted member of St. John Baptist Missionary Church in Kansas City, KS, Helen served faithfully in many roles—usher, secretary of the Senior Mission, member of the Mother Board, and a tireless volunteer. Her dedication to her church and community was a reflection of her generous spirit and deep faith.
Professionally, Helen brought her talents to Halls Department Store’s accounting department and later to Hallmark Cards’ Crown Room. She retired from Hallmark with pride, having made lasting friendships and meaningful contributions.
Helen’s legacy is vast and vibrant. She is survived by 85 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and the daughters of her heart: Delores Funderburke, Wanda Parker, Sandra Story, and Beverly Kelsey. Her life was enriched by her sisters in Christ and countless friends who cherished her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.
Helen’s journey was one of love, resilience, and faith. She touched lives with her smile, her strength, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Her memory will continue to inspire and uplift all who were blessed to know her.
