Harold Sauls Sr. Obituary

Life’s Reflection

Harold Dayton Sauls Sr. passed away peacefully in his home, the afternoon of August 8, 2021, after a gradual decline in his health. He was surrounded by family during the last days of his life. He leaves behind his spouse of 44 years, Wanda Dirks; 12 children, siblings; and a host of family.

Harold Sauls was born on January 31, 1956, in Kansas City, KS to the union of Charles D. Sauls and Lillie M. Sauls. He grew up in a large family of 5 brothers, 6 sisters and a niece. He accepted Christ at a young age. Harold received his education from the Kansas City, KS School District. After his schooling, Harold worked a series of jobs until he became a full-time employee of the Street Maintenance Division-Unified Government of Wyandotte County. He was a flare technician for 35 years before retiring in January of 2020.

If Harold wasn't working or assisting with raising his children, you could always find him in his backyard working on his craft. He was truly a renaissance man that loved working with his hands. He was very well-known for his customized barbecue grills, picnic tables, lawn furniture and trash bins which he sold throughout the KC Metro area. Harold's desire, once he retired, was to have his creations patented to eventually sell them all over North America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, David Privett, three sisters, Ruth M. Hall, Willie M. Robinson, and Willie J. Sauls.

Harold is survived by his spouse, Wanda Dirks of Kansas City, KS; twelve children; Harold (Michelle) Sauls Jr; Carl (Sharon) Dirks; Carla Dirks; Candi (Nathan) Woods; Cardell Dirks; Christopher (Ashley) Dirks; Cynthia Sauls; Chanda Sauls; Carlton Sauls; Courtney Sauls; Christian Sauls; and Chauncey Sauls.

Nineteen grandchildren, Naomi Woods; Nyla Woods; Nalani Woods; Nia Woods; Briana Alise Sauls; Taylor Michelle Sauls; Harold Dayton Sauls III; Devan Charles Sauls; Noah McCord; Carly Dirks; D'Ante Dirks (King; Kartier; and Dante Jr); Kiyara Cummings (D'Ante Kingston); Jai'den Dirks; Braylon Dirks; Shamaya McNeely; Zaire Dirks; Ja'Mia Dirks; Ja'Mel Dirks; and Ja'Mar Dirks.

He also leaves to cherish his memories, four brothers, Aubrey Emanuel (Joann) Sauls, Thurman Sauls, Tommie (Gwendolyn) Sauls; sisters, Shirley Sauls, Lucretia (Sam) Crawford Walker, and LZ Sauls; a special niece, Connie (Phillip) Sauls-Davis.  Also, a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
