Life Reflections
Gloria Chandler Coleman was born November 28, 1943, in Prairie, Mississippi to Alex Paul and Mary Della (Fortson) Chandler.
She accepted Christ at an early age and entered the fellowship of New Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
She received her high school education from Aberdeen Colored High School, a Bachelor of Education at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri, Master of Arts, at the University of Missouri. She retired after 30 years of service as an elementary school teacher with the Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas School Districts.
On March 30, 1977, she married William Darden Coleman Sr. She was a life member of St. Peter CME Church. Gloria was an avid sports fan and loved playing bridge.
Gloria departed from this life in her home in Kansas City, Kansas on January 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 28 years, William Darden Coleman Sr; her parents, Alex and Mary Chandler, her sisters, Bessie Chandler Beasley, Princess Norman; her brothers, Cleveland Fortson; Herman Chandler; and daughter, Rhonda Coleman.
She is survived by Charna Pettaway (Ray), Clarence Lee (Tarolyn), Cindy Rush, Stacey Hughes (Howard), William D. Coleman JR. (Shelia), twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and scores of nieces, nephews, caring relatives, and friends.
