Geraldine (Gaither) Smith was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 3, 1932. She was 92 at the time of her passing on April 21, 2024. She was the youngest of 6 children.
Geraldine attended Douglas High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Geraldine met and married Raymond I. Smith, Se. They were married almost 50 years before his passing. From this union, they had 3 children, a daughter Vinita S. Cannady of Kansas City, Kansas,2 sons Raymond I. Smith, Jr. and Darryl M. Smith residing in Washington, D.C. She was a devoted wife and mother and, was committed to giving her family her all.
After her marriage, she moved to Washington, D.C. Geraldine worked several part-time jobs until the birth of her son Raymond, Jr., and four years later she gave birth to her son Darryl.
She then decided to be a stay-at-home Mom. She did alterations to men’s and women’s clothing. She designed and sewed women’s dresses she was an excellent seamstress. She made a lot of her clothing as well as her daughter’s clothing which included all her prom dresses and wedding grown. She enjoyed decorating her house, entertaining family, and friends, camping at the trail at Indian Acres, music, dancing, playing cards, cruising to the Caribbean, and going to the casino.
On September 30, 2024, she decided to move to Kansas City, KS to live with her daughter. She is survived by her daughter Vinita S. Cannady of Kansas City, KS, 2 sons Raymond I. Smith, Jr. Kansas City, KS, and Darryl M. Smith residing in Washington, D.C. 2 grandsons and Shaun A. Cannady and wife Sopha Cannady, Kansas City, MO, Darryl Smith Jr. Atlanta GA., 2 great grandsons Shaun Cannady Jr. Kansas City, Kansas and Sander Cannady, Kansas City, MO, and 1 granddaughter Adrianne Smith, Atlanta, GA, 3 great granddaughters Hailey, Harlem, and Serenity, Atlanta GA, and a host of nieces and nephews from the Diggs, Adams, and Poulson families and close friends.
