GERALD KITCHEN Obituary

Gerald Wayne Kitchen, a longtime resident of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born on January 1, 1953, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late George Madison Kitchen II and Merriam Kitchen (Thomas). Gerald lived a full life surrounded by his loved ones in the city he called home.

Gerald was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He attended Sumner High School, proudly graduating with the class of 1971. Shortly after, in December of that same year, Gerald honorably answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His military career took him abroad, completing a tour in Frankfurt, Germany, and he is a Vietnam War Era veteran. Gerald's distinguished service was recognized through several prestigious commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the esteemed Sharpshooter Recognition.

After completing his military service, Gerald embarked on a diverse professional journey spanning multiple roles. He devoted many years to the Taxi Service before transitioning into a career in maintenance at Chelsea Apartments. Gerald's final position was as an Environmental Services Technician at the VA Hospital, where he dedicated 14 years of diligent service until his well-deserved retirement in 2020. No matter the job, Gerald approached his work with an unwavering ethic, steadfast commitment, and tireless effort that defined his professional life.

Away from work, Gerald was an avid sports fan and a die-hard supporter of the Raiders. He enjoyed spending his free time watching ESPN and discussing the latest games and highlights while hanging out and "shooting the breeze" with his friends.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents, George Madison Kitchen II and Merriam Kitchen (Thomas); his siblings Byron Kitchen, Francis Parker, Otis Moran and George Madison Kitchen III; and his beloved son, Gerald Wayne Kitchen Jr. Though they have gone before him, the loving memories they created together will be cherished forever.

Gerald is survived by his life partner, Kay Francis Cade; daughter, Alesha L. Cade; bonus daughters who were like his own, Tameka Lamb, Nakisha Caldwell, Niysha Hill-Bey, and Tynisha Bettis; grandchildren, Donnell Lamb, Kalah Barfield, Darrian Flint Jr., and Brooklyn Moore; siblings, Dorothy Groves of Missouri, Merle Kitchen of Missouri, Louis Moran of Colorado, Sandra Kitchen of Kansas, and LaTonya Cook of Illinois; as well numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of close friends who will all profoundly miss his presence. The love and memories they shared will forever be cherished.
