George D. Atkins, Jr. was born May 30, 1950, to George D. Atkins, Sr. and Olivia Anderson in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his Father, George, Sr. Mother Olivia Stells, Stepmother, Nealie, Sister Lynda Atkins-Harris, brother Gregory and sister Gabrella Omega Atkins.
During his high school years at Argentine, he participated in all sports with football being his favorite.
Dennis as he was affectionately called began his work career at the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked there for 20 years as a car inspector and retired on disability after being hurt on the job.
Dennis was a terrific huntsman and looked forward to every hunting season to bring in the biggest buck of his buddies. He often made his own recipe of venison sausage and seasoned all the other cuts to perfection, then shared whole heartedly with the family members willing to experience the wildlife cuisine. He loved his lawn and spent many hours trying to keep it up.
He was an advent farmer who loved to spend time managing a soy bean crop and other vegetation in Holt County Missouri. He delighted himself in being a motivated, self-starter, and accomplished tasks without any assistance. Dennis was an avid reader and loved all the books and novels that John Grisham ever published.
Although he did not have any children, he supported a lot of youth in sports activities, including his nieces and nephews. He spent many years as the Assistant Basketball coach at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. While there, he led them to several championships and allowed some of the out-of-town players to spend time in his home on the weekends.
Dennis was a “Pit-Master” that loved to experiment with different techniques while using exotic flavors of smoke and wood on his professional grills. His meat and protein selections made amazing choices for friends and family to enjoy their palate for fun and fellowship on Holidays, special occasions and to celebrate his birthday.
Although he will be greatly missed he is no longer doing the silent suffering.
Dennis leaves to mourn his sisters and brothers, Gwen Ridgnal, Gerald (Victoria) Atkins, Geri Atkins, Gisele Atkins, and Greta (Robert) Scroggins, sister-in-law Pam Kerr and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friend and neighbor Michael Howell.
