Nature 42

September 17, 1936 ~ January 11, 2024 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Frank Esquire Hoskins, affectionately known as Billy, was born September 17, 1936 in Waldron, Missouri, to the union of Frankie B. Hoskins and Alpha F. Keele.  Our Heavenly Father called him home on January 11, 2024.  He’s now united together forever with both parents; brothers Elton, Herman, Wallace, and Gaylon; and sisters Verda and Pinkie.

Frank received his primary education at Banneker School’s historic site in Parkville, Missouri, then later admittance to Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri.   Frank joined the United States Army in the late 1950’s, and served his duty in Germany.  His early years he worked for Elmer Jackson’s Disposable Company, Ben Lewin’s Packing House and various jobs as a bricklayer.  He later worked as a boiler operator in a power heating plant for Park College for 10 years.  In addition, Frank had 25 years of service with North Kansas City School District as a custodian until retirement.

Frank’s sense of humor and infectious personality touched everyone who knew him.  Just play some oldies and he would give you a full-blown concert, hitting every note along with his old school dance steps.  He was a gifted storyteller, weaving imaginative narratives, such as the beloved character Mrs. Cabbage Head, captivating siblings and friends alike.

He loved his Kansas Jayhawks, and could talk on-and-on about Jayhawk history and former players.  One of his biggest highlights was watching the men’s basketball in the Allen Field House in Lawrence Kansas, and traveling to watch every game up to Final Four when KU won National Championship in 2008.  He was in pure bliss chanting “R-O-C-K-C-H-A-L-K ~~ J-A-Y-H-A-W-K ~~ KUUUUUU”.

Frank united in marriage to Helen M. Grayson.  Born to this union were three children: Eric Lee (son), Mariea Andrea (daughter), and Roxanne Nicole (daughter).  He was very proud of his children and cherished his expanded family with his son-in-law’s Jack and Roy, daughter-in-law Heather; grandchildren – Roy Travis Lee (Tumaka), Katrena Marie, Chez Marie, Lester Eugene, Sashe Nicole, Gavin Cole, Ethan Garret (heavenly home), and 12 great-grandchildren.

Frank also leaves wonderful memories to cherish amongst his two brothers, Eugene Hoskins (Mary) and Albert Hoskins of Kansas City, Missouri, along with his two sisters, Edith Caldwell of Tampa, Florida, and Daisy Young (Preston) of Grandview, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, large extended family and friends.
