FLORA NELL RUSH

Flora Nell (Houston) Rush, 91, passed away on February 19, 2024, in Kansas City, Kansas.  Flora was born on March 29, 1932, in Sylvarena, Mississippi to Dunk and Bernice (Briggs) Houston.

Her parents, brothers Lundell, Otis, Robert, John and sisters Hellene and Dorthia preceded her in death and has one surviving brother Billie Houston (Emma).  She moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1946 and attended Kansas City, Kansas public schools.  She married Samuel L. Rush on December 9, 1951, who he lovingly called her “Sugga Lump”.  To this union they had five children, Fonda, Rhonda, Yolonda, Samuel Jr. and Eric.

Flora gave a lifetime of true devotion to her family and many others she took under her wings.  She was a nurturer, she loved to take care of people with open arms and extended her maternal gifts to her children’s friends “as their second mother”.She would babysit if needed and you could count on her to lend a helping hand wherever she could.  She was the epitome of a kind and loving person to everyone, which is why she is known as Momma Rush to many. 

Flora is survived by her children Fonda Hendrix (Fabian), Rhonda Rush, Yolonda Brinkley (Miguel), Samuel Rush Jr., and Eric Rush. Grandchildren, Corbin, Fayon (Damon), Fabian Jr (deceased) Aunya, Stephan Jr, Daniel (Joelle) Miguel Jr, Lindsay (Ahkil), Jamaine, Lyneeta. Great grandchildren, Keirstyn, Damon Jr, Mark Jr, Maya, Jayla (deceased) A’Naya, A’Maryi, Stephan III, Jaylen, Julian, Myles, Gabriel, Eli and Aiden. Daughters in love, DAnne Shelton and Angela Mobley. Granddaughter’s in love, Crystal Kiner and Mel’issa Lane along with a host of nieces and nephews.
