Mr. Eugene Brown, Sr., 91, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on August 24, 2025, at home in Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by family. Eugene was born on December 11, 1933, in Waskom, Texas, to Washington and Jennie V. Brown.
Eugene lived in Houston, Texas, and at an early age, he moved in with his grandparents, Walter and Savanah "Sug" Brown, on their farm in Stonewall, Louisiana. His grandfather gave him his own horse. Eugene was educated in Mansfield, Louisiana.
Eugene was introduced to his future wife by his friend Willie D. Varner. Willie D.'s beautiful cousin was standing at a bus stop waiting to go to work when the two met. Eugene married Louise Clark on August 16, 1953, in Louisiana, and they moved to Kansas City, Kansas, ten years later. They had six children and were happily married for 72 years.
Eugene’s first job was in Louisiana as a woodworker at a lumber mill. He later worked in Kansas City, Missouri, as a paint maker at Cook’s Paint. After leaving Cook’s Paint, he joined Tnemec Paint Company, also as a paint maker, and later became the plant supervisor. Eugene retired from Tnemec Paint Company in 1998. Additionally, Eugene owned Brown’s Pool Hall on 5th Street in Kansas City, Kansas.
Eugene enjoyed playing pool, fishing, working on cars, playing cards, playing dominoes, bowling, and helping others. If you needed help with something in your house or had a problem with your car, Eugene was there to help.
He was a member of First Baptist Church at 5th and Nebraska, where he served as a trustee, drove the church van, and was the building maintenance custodian.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Eugene Brown Jr.; his sisters, Mary Lee Buckner and Margaret Howard; his brothers, William Clyde Brown, John W. Brown, and Charles D. Brown; and his grandson, Charles D. “Chuck” Riley.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Louise Brown; his children, Jennie V. Riley, Alonzo Brown (Georgia), Louise Brown-Williams (Drew), Wendell T. Brown (Judy), and Donald C. Brown, Sr. (Marilyn); his daughter-in-law, Andrea Brown; his sisters, Loyce Brown-White, Joyce Brown-Pugh, and Bessie Zeager; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.
