In Loving Memory: Elricas “Bear” Williams

March 22, 1981 – May 21, 2023

Elricas “Bear” Williams born on March 22, 1981, was a beloved soul who graced this world with his presence. He was born and raised in Kansas City, KS to Cynthia Sheppard and Roy Williams. From his earliest days, it was evident that Bear possessed a special spark. He was fun, loving, and cuddly, like a stuffed bear. Hence the nickname, “Bear”.

Bear lived a life that may not have been defined by a long list of accomplishments or degrees, but rather by the richness of his character and the depth of his spirit. He attended and graduated from Turner High School in Kansas City, KS.

Bear was a loving and cherished family above all else. His genuine love and unwavering support served as a source of strength and inspiration for those closest to him. Bear lived a life guided by the rhythm of music and the beat of political change. He understood the transformative power of both art and activism, and his journey was one of harmony between these two realms.

Bear is survived by his son Devin Williams of Kansas City, Kansas. Fiancé Joyce Mondaine of Kansas City, KS. Mother Cynthia Sheppard of Kansas City, KS. Father Roy Williams of Muskogee, OK. Sister Erica (Preston) Williams-Portley of Kansas City, KS. Nieces Trinity Portley and Torrance Portley. Nephew Preston Portley II; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Today, as we gather to bid farewell to our dear Bear, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives. Let us celebrate his life and honor his memory by embracing the qualities that made him so special—compassion, love, and a zest for life. May Bear's spirit forever guide us, and may we find solace in the knowledge that he is at peace, watching over us with eternal love.

Rest in peace Bear!
