EDWARD BENJAMIN (BENNY) RAWLINS

Edward Benjamin (Benny) Rawlins, died Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Overland Park Hospital.

He was born on December 14, 1936, in Wichita, KS, the son of Edward and Mary (Landrum) Rawlins. During his childhood, Benny moved to Newton KS. and graduated from Newton High School in 1954 where he played football.

Benny joined the United States Army immediately after high school and proudly served his country for six years. After leaving the army, Benny followed in his father’s footsteps and started working for the railroad in Newton. He then moved to Kansas City and transferred to Burlington Northern. Benny retired from the railroad in 2001 after working 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Aola Rawlins (Poke) of the home; daughter, Sylvia Smith, Overland Park, KS; one sister Winnie Garnett, Kansas City, MO; and two granddaughters, Calvionne and Romahni.

Services will Friday, December 29, 2023, at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, 2013 7th Street in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. The funeral will follow visitation at 11:00 am. Interment will be immediately following the service at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
