Donovan Coney Obituary

Donovan Josiah Coney passed away at St John’s Hospital at the age of 18 in Leavenworth, Kansas

Dono or Babyboy as he was affectionately known, was born on January 7, 2005, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Theo and Leah Coney. Dono was born completely healthy and a nurse later noticed that he was jaundice. At four days old he was diagnosed with kernicterus which led to cerebral palsy and dystonia.

Donovan was an only child until February 26, 2010 when Ava and Aidan, his twin sister and brother were born. As is common of siblings, they had a beautiful bond. It was common to see Dono laughing at his brother and sister when they got in trouble.

Despite his medical condition Dono thrived academically. He was considered a bright student. He began school at Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2012 he moved with his family to Kanas City and attended Henry Leavenworth Elementary School in Leavenworth, Kansas. In 2018 he attended Richard Warren Middle School and in 2020 he began school at Leavenworth High School until 2022. Dono was scheduled to graduate in 2025.

Despite the many complications that “Babyboy” faced, he faced life so courageously! With the love of his family and support of his nurses, Tina and Julia, he smiled and laughed his way through life.

Donovan is survived by his mother and father, Leah and Theo; his brother and sister, Ava and Aidan; his maternal grandmother, Vivian Teat; his paternal grandparents, John and Mary Mosley; his maternal grandparents, Lee and Theresa Pitts; his uncle, Lee Pitts, III; his uncle, Shon Graham; his aunt, Tina Young, and a host of other family and friends.
