Life's Reflection
Delbra Perkins Greer-Spivey was born as a twin on May 2, 1951 to George R. Perkins and Arra Jane Boyd Perkins in Hensley, Arkansas.
The parents of 18 births and raising 12 children. The family moved from Arkansas to Kansas City, Kansas in 1953 shortly after the major flood.
Delbra accepted Christ at an early age at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor H.W. Bowen. She attended the Kansas City, Kansas School District, graduating from Wyandotte High School “Class of 1969.” She also attended Donnelly College and the Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC).
Delbra met and married John Monroe Willis in 1969 and to this union one child was born. Delbra enjoyed working on projects that involved paper and computers. She always expressed the desire to work at IBM Corp one day. Delbra was employed at IBM for approximately 15 years. She later was employed at United Parcel Service (UPS), Sprint and retired from Prescription Solutions.
Delbra left Sprint in 1998 to care for her 89 year old mother. Delbra cared for her mother for 7 years until she went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2005.
During Delbra’s time at home while caring for her mother she started a desktop printing business, DCG & Associates. Delbra’s business model included providing various printing services to include funeral programs. She worked with Thatcher’s Funeral Home and later began printing for several funeral homes throughout the community. Delbra continued her printing skills after her retirement.
Delbra met Donald Spivey (Byrd) in 2011 later marrying him in 2015. Delbra loved singing with her sisters “The Perkins Sisters.”
She united with Salem Missionary Baptist Church in 2017 under the leadership of Pastor Tony Carter, Jr.
Delbra was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George R. Perkins, Jr., A.B. Perkins, and Lethel Perkins; her sisters; Theola Perkins, Garnice Hicks, and Mabel Mitchell.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory; her husband, Donald Spivey (Byrd); her daughter, Sherri Willis; her sisters, Doris Davis (Frank), Lois Rogers, Margaret Hood, Melbra Lewis (her twin sister); her brother, Henry Perkins; many nieces/nephews who she could always call on if she needed help and a host of other relatives and friends.
