We honor the life and legacy of Henry Lee Jordan.
Henry Jordan was a joy to be around. He was always full of laughter, happiness, and fun. He brought light and love to everyone he encountered during his life.
Henry Lee, as he was affectionately called, was born in Warrenton, North Carolina to Mary Alston and Gilbert Jordan on July 19, 1948. He was the youngest of nine children. Henry accepted Jesus Christ in his life at an early age, attending Ridgeway Baptist Church. With Christ and the love and support of his family, he developed the core values of faith, hard work, and compassion that would define the rest of his life.
After graduating from John R. Hawkins High School, he enlisted into the United States Army in 1968 and proudly served from 1968 - 1971. After leaving the army, Henry took an interest in Aviation and became a Certified Aviation Maintenance Technician. After working for several years, he decided to relocate to Kansas City, where he met and wed the love of his life, Joan Jordan on April 6, 1979. They were married for 45 years and raised six children together.
Henry had a long and distinguished career at Associated Wholesale Grocers, where he made countless friends and connections, always doing his best to leave a positive impact on everyone he worked with. After 32 rewarding years, he went into retirement.
Henry was a God-fearing, devoted man of God. He faithfully served in the ministry for decades wearing many hats including ushering, mentoring through men’s outreach groups, spending time feeding and ministering to the less fortunate and then becoming an ordained deacon.
Henry Lee Jordan went to be with God peacefully on November 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
A father, brother, husband and friend, Henry truly knew what it meant to sacrifice for his family always putting himself last to see his children smile. He knew that being a good father isn’t about perfection but about “presence”. It’s about always showing up for your children and Henry’s children always knew they could depend on him. He will be truly missed in the lives of his children, his wife, his family and the many people he impacted during his walk here on earth.
Henry Lee was preceded in death by his parents, James Gilbert Jordan and Mary Jordan; his sisters, Lucille Young, Betty Vaughn, Dorothea Jordan, and Rosa Williams; and his brothers, Thomas Earl Jordan, Willie Howard Jordan, and James Jordan.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Joan Jordan of Kansas City, Kansas. His six children: Shaunice Jordan,Candace Jordan, Zsamina Jordan, Marlainna Francis, Joseph Glenn, and Dionne Spence; his sister Edith Graves; his cherished grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
