Deacon Albert Cruitt

His Life’s Reflections

Deacon Albert Cruitt, 90, departed this life at home, on August 7, 2022, surrounded by family. He was born on November 25, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas. The son of Albert Cruitt, and Mary Person Cruitt, he was the first sibling of 4 children, and 2 cousins raised as his brother and sister as well.

Albert grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, attending Douglas, Northeast, and graduating from Sumner High School, class of 1951.

He was united in marriage to Cathryn Cade on June 27, 1962. To this union a daughter, Sherri Denise was born. He loved traveling and attending religious services all over the country with his wife Cathryn.

Albert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, after which he was honorably discharged.

Following his Army service, he worked for the Armour Packing Company as a processor, and the Kansas City Kansas Community College for over 30 years as a maintenance technician. He also worked for the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Dept. for a short while until his health started to decline, and Thatcher’s Funeral Home as an attendant and driver.

He was a long time 50 plus year member and Deacon of the Eight Street Baptist Church. He later joined the Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon as well. Praising God and serving was his lifelong mission.

Albert was active in the community and was honored by Friends of Yates as a “Black Man of Distinction” in recognition of “Black History Month”.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Cathryn Cruitt; his parents, Albert, and Mary Cruitt; brother and sister, William Cruitt; and Frankie Irons; cousins, Ernestine Pilcher; and Clifford Campbell.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Blunt of Asheville North Carolina; brother, Larry (Shirley) Cruitt of Kansas City, Kansas; grandson Jamelle (Lauren) Blunt of Lawrence, Kansas; niece, Benice (Ray) Meeks of Kansas City, Kansas; cousin, LaDora Lattimore of Kansas City, Kansas; and 3 great-grandchildren of Lawrence Kansas; nephews, nieces, and a host of family and friends.
