D was born in Warrensburg, Missouri, on July 9, 1992 to Ira Derek Hutchinson and Laura Lee Hutchinson (Williams).  D was preceded in death by his grandmother, Leona Locke; and grandfathers, David Lawrence Hutchinson; and James Ray Davis.

D grew up in Kansas City, Kansas where he was raised by his mom and dad, David Sambol.  D was educated in the KCKS Public Schools and graduated from Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2010.  D was very talented and shined his talents through forensics and debate in high school.  D went on to attend Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri where D graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in History.  At Truman, D joined the Delta Delta Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and was active for two and a half years.  D had a brilliant mind and at the time of D’s passing, D was a PhD candidate in the department of history at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  D had a passion for teaching and worked as a Graduate Student Instructor in addition to researching and writing a dissertation.  D’s research interests included African American Gender History, African American Intellectual History, Cultural History, and Queer Studies.

D was very kind and loving and was bonded to the love of family and friends who loved him unconditionally.  He was witty and enjoyed a good debate and intellectual conversation.  D was a well-rounded person and had a variety of interests including teaching, reading, a variety of music, poetry, and of course frequent visits to Starbucks.
