David Joern Berry

David Joern Berry was born October 16, 1950 to the union of Joseph and Ina Robinson Berry

David departed this life on September 22, 2020 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.

David was born and raised in Kansas City, KS. Where he resided his entire life.

David gave his life to Christ at a young age, all the while attending Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church and later became a Deacon and a part of the Security Team and remained a member of the church until death.

He was educated in the Kansas City Kansas Public School System. His early schooling was at Dunbar Elementary School, later at Northeast Junior High School and he graduated from Sumner High School in 1968. He then Attended Park College on a Basketball Scholarship.

David married his high school sweetheart Patricia Ann Collins.  And to this union one daughter, Telicia Nicole was born. On August 9, 2020 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Along with his Father In-Law, David worked as a Machinist for Missouri Pacific Railroad which later became Union Pacific Railroad. He retired after 33 years of service. Later he became a Foster Grand Parent and Board Member.  Working in the Kansas City Kansas Public School System USD 500.  He also worked for the Piper School District. He taught and loved all of his Special Needs Students.  Such an outstanding teacher, he received several awards during his time of service including The Reasons To Believe, a hero 2016.

David was a gentle giant, and very active in his community. Always kind and considerate, he touched a lot of hearts of all those that knew him. Because David loved youth so much, he became a Youth Basketball Coach. Starting a couple of basketball organizations, Shooting Stars & 76 All Stars. He later joined with The Blue Dogs and Kick Ministries.  Also, a mentor for The Jenga Klub for Boys To Men. Here he was able to be a positive inspiration and role model for at risk boys and girls. Keeping them in something motivating and positive and off the streets. David’s hobbies included listening to Jazz Music, watching sports and adult coloring books. David was also very helpful with Family and Friends whenever and wherever needed.

He will be greatly missed by all.

 Proceeding him in death are his parents Joseph and Ina Berry, Two sisters Jonell Mc Neal (Johnny) Wanda Redeemer, one brother Frank Harold Berry one niece Regina McNeal

To cherish his loving memory he leaves his wife of 50 years Patricia Ann Berry, One Daughter Telicia Berry, One Grandson Khalil Milligan Two Brothers Joseph Berry Jr (Zelma),  Edwin Allen two sisters Brenda Kennedy (Glenn), Opal Jackie Betts (Jeffery) A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
