Dwayne Joseph Perkins, 75, passed away on Saturday, February 3rd at his home in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on April 28, 1948, to Harold Perkins and Charlene (Lasley) Perkins. Dwayne grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1967. After high school, he attended UMKC for several years before being drafted into the Army where he served as an MP (military police). Dwayne was a lifelong member of 8th Street Baptist Church attending faithfully until his illness prevented him.
Dwayne married Rosie Blue and had two children, D’Michael Perkins and Marchita Perkins.
Dwayne worked for several Ford dealerships. Raising in rank from car salesman to General Manager. Within this role, he earned several awards.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Perkins, 3 loving aunts (Barbara Lasley Woods, Alfreda Lasley Fisher, and Alice Perkins Wright); and his grandparents Alfred and Lillian Lasley, and Willie and Lavenia Perkins.
His memories will be forever cherished by his devoted mother Charlene Perkins; sister Sharon McReynolds; beloved son D’Michael Perkins (Shannon) and daughter Marchita Perkins and his five grandchildren: Grace and Chase Leito, D’Anthony, D’Angelo, and Rasia Perkins; his beloved cousins and niece and nephews who lovingly cared from him: Darryl (Janice) Woods, Darrick Woods (recently deceased), Jerna Fisher, Kezia Fisher, Damon McReynolds, and Danielle McReynolds-Dell (Jim) of Oakland, Ca; and a host of cousins, nieces, grand nieces, and nephews.
He leaves a host of childhood friends who through his years of illness visited, prayed, provided meals, entertained and continually helped in any way they could: Vincent Jarret (Barbara), Sam “Boots” Hill (Charlene) of Bakersfield, California, Brenda Welch( Berkley) Parnell, Rev. Arthur Jackson (Shirley), Cheryl Stewart-Jordan, and Marie Nichols; and his loving partner of many years, Karen Savwoir.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17th, from 10am until 11am at 8th Street Baptist Church located at 1420 N 8th St. in Kansas City, Kansas. The religious service will follow the visitation. Dwayne will be buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
