As a very young man, James gave his life to Christ. He was a devout member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Dr. James Alphonso Crawford, age 95, of Kansas City, Kansas, died peacefully while surrounded by family and friends, November 12, 2023 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife Fannie Mae Crawford, parents, Edgar and Georgia Crawford, and sister, Vivian Crawford.
Dr. James Alphonso Crawford was born September 16, 1928 in Gastonia, North Carolina. He graduated from Reid High School in Belmont, North Carolina. His last two years in High School were spent at the prestigious Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, NC. He received the degree of Doctor of Surgical Podiatry from the Ohio College of Podiatry. After graduation he entered the US Army and served in the medical Corps and received an honorable discharge.
These traits remained quite visible throughout his entire life. He retired in 1999 after 38 years of service. He owned and operated an additional three other Podiatry Clinics in Kansas City, Kansas that served the entire metropolitan area. James was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., the NAACP, and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He married Fannie Mae Moffatte in 1958 in Winston Salem, NC and was happily married for 32 years.
James loved spending time with his family, enjoyed traveling, photography, and he was a proud member of Chiefs Kingdom. Red Kingdom!
He leaves behind his Sweetie Pie, Sugar Lee Lewis, his daughter, Joan Johnson, Son, Jerald Crawford, grandchildren, Wilson Hall 3rd, James Johnson, Danielle Kelly, Elisa Crawford, Sharon Cummings, Tiffaney Locke, great grandchildren, Wilson Hall 4th, James “Rocky” Johnson, Leevon Hall, Kamelo Hall, Obadyah Kelly, Joshua Jackson, Logan Harris, Cheyenne Francois, Brandon Francois, Destiney Oakes, Bryson Swope, Mylan Hall, Abram “JuJu” Allen Jr and a host of relatives and friends.
