DARRYL HOBSON Obituary

Life Reflections

Darryl Maurice Hobson, born on June 15, 1961, to the union of Archie Maurice and Georgia Ann Hobson, in Kansas City, KS.  He departed this life on April 1, 2021.

Educated through the KCK school system, attending Douglas Elementary, Northeast Junior High, Sumner High School, while graduating from Harmon High School, in 1979.

Darryl excelled in all sports, including, football, track, basketball, and baseball.  Blessed to achieve a football scholarship to Division I, Iowa State University (ISU), where he completed four years of college, Darryl competed against other major college teams in the Big 8 Conference, including Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, and other major non-conference teams.

Darryl caught his 1st touchdown pass as a member of ISU Football Team at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego, CA, against San Diego State.  We were all there!

(Mom, Mark, Mike, Archie & Dad). Our brother, Archie, held the cord for Head Coach Donnie Duncan on the sidelines. These memories were always dear to his heart.

Darryl & Karen Ewing were united in marriage, later to be dissolved. To this union, one son, Jordan Maurice Hobson was born.

Employed by Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for many years after college, Darryl supported his family.  He later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country with pride. Darryl was trained as a cook and acquired his culinary talent that led to several Chef Positions at local restaurants.

He accepted the Lord at an early age.  Darryl was baptized at Metropolitan Baptist Church, in Kansas City, KS.  He had been a member of the Men’s Chorus, active in a church Christmas Play, where he encouraged the young people & attended bible study. He loved to hear the children’s choir.

Darryl was preceded in death by his Father; Archie Maurice Hobson, and his loving Grandparents; Hezekiah & Alva Thomas.

He was a loving dad, son, brother, uncle, nephew & friend, that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Darryl always wanted you to know he “loved” you.

Darryl had an infectious smile, an encouraging word & he never met a stranger.

He leaves to cherish his memory, Mother; Georgia (Preston) Taylor (KCKS), Son; Jordan Hobson (Hamburg, NJ), Brothers; Mark (Angie) Hobson, Sr. (Phoenix, AZ), Michael (Valinda) Hobson, Sr. (Overland Park, KS), & Archie Hobson, Jr. (Los Angeles, CA), Sisters; Marla Riser (Rockwall, TX), Michel Hobson (McKinney, TX) & Tracy (Vincent) Harris (KCKS), Aunts; Joanne Smith (KCKS) & Fredarecca Hobson (KCMO), Uncles; Robert (Vivian)Thomas (KCKS), Earl Thomas (Kirkland, WA) & Ronald (Deena) McClain, Sr. (Salt Lake City, UT)., a Special Cousin; Ronald (Kim) McClain, Jr. (Johns Creek, GA), a  Lifelong Friend; Pastor Maurice (Holly) Williams (Olathe, KS) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & countless friends.
