Clare Colbert was born September 24, 1941, to the union of Elder LaDell Bilberry Sr. and Corine McGough. Her parents, four sisters, Lu Emma Horn, Sara James, Emma Jean Payne, Loreace Watley, and seven brothers, Joseph Bilberry, Johnnie Bilberry, Claude Bilberry, Adell Bilberry, Clarence Bilberry, Booker T. Bilberry, and Richard Bilberry preceded her in death.
Clare entered eternal life into the arms of our Heavenly Father on September 02, 2023. She accepted Christ at an early age. She moved from Grambling Louisiana in 1968 and was a lifelong resident of Kansas City Kansas. She worked for the State of Kansas for many years and retired in 2002.
She was a faithful member of the Second Metropolitan Baptist Church where she ushered, sang in the choir and served faithfully until her health would not allow. Clare was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She had an everlasting effect on those she met; she was sometimes misunderstood, but she was a kind, generous, sweet, loving and funny woman who loved playing the piano and used her talent for music every chance she could to help in many ministries in her path of life. She enjoyed playing many instruments, but especially her piano, gardening, eating crab legs and watching her favorite TV show, Wheel of Fortune. She spoke fondly of her life in Louisiana, attending family reunions, as Clare had an overwhelming love for all her family. Outside of spending time with her husband, she loved to go fishing, where you could find her on a lake any given day that she could be there. If anyone ever needed a helping hand, she would give advice and help with her infectious smile. She will always be remembered for her kind Christian deeds throughout her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband of 18 years, Braxton Colbert, her children, Charles L. Davis Jr. (LaWaunda) of Kansas City, KS., Charlotta B. Smallwood (Stanley) of Flower Mound, Texas. Three grandchildren, Christopher L. Davis, Maui, Hawaii, Tamisha L. Smallwood & Nicole K. Smallwood of Flower Mound, TX, two great-grandsons, Christopher Prince Davis and Cypress Lucas Davis of Maui, Hawaii. She leaves one sister LoEast Watkins, two brothers, Hubbert (Herbert) Bilberry Sr., Elder Ladell Bilberry Jr. (Mary) of Texas, two sister-n-laws, Janet Stevenson of Independence, MO and Barbara Freeman (James, aka “Freeman”) of Omaha Nebraska, one brother-in-law Reginald Colbert of Tampa, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and her church family. May GOD keep a song in your heart!
