Life's Reflection
Cheryl Elaine Garrett passed on July 29, 2020 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born April 9, 1956 in Beaumont, Texas to Dorothy Garrett (Marshall) and Melvin Barideaux, Sr. Cheryl was raised in Beaumont, Texas before moving to Kansas City where she remained a lifelong resident. She graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas in 1974. After high school she attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas before transferring to Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
She was employed with the United States Postal Service where she was a Mail Handler for twenty-five years. She also served in the capacity as a precinct committee woman in Wyandotte County. Her love for education motivated her to become a member of the Combined Class of 1974 – USD 500 where she participated in fundraising and issuing scholarships to deserving students. Cheryl enjoyed spending time with her family, watching and attending sporting events. She was also an avid traveler who loved going to concerts and experiencing different cuisines. She was known to be a very skilled chess, dominoes, and Scrabble player.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Mae Garrett (Marshall), Melvin Barideaux Sr. and Rev. Eugene Marshall Jr.; Siblings, Dr. Allen Garrett, Sharon Marshall, and Amy Barideaux – Francois.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter Kiera Garrett of Kansas City, Kansas; siblings Alicia (John) Bazzle of Raytown, MO, Melvin Barideaux, Jr., Gloria (Theodore) Barideaux – Boone, Helen Barideaux, Mona Barideaux, Deborah (Samuel) Barideaux – Rowe, Melvina (Lonnie) Harris, Pamela (George) Sandifer all of Port Arthur, TX and Johnny (Sophia) Barideaux of Aurora, CO; her granddaughter Amira, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
