Charles Lewis Ikerd, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, entered eternal rest on July 9, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on November 4, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas, Charles was the cherished son of the late Robert and Willie Ikerd.
From a young age, Charles embraced his faith, accepting Christ and being baptized—a spiritual foundation that remained a guiding light throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Washington High School’s Class of 1970, Charles pursued higher education and earned several academic credits. He went on to build a remarkable career in construction, dedicating over 30 years of service to Laborers Local Trail. His commitment and skill earned him numerous certifications and accolades, and even after retirement, he remained a proud and active member of the Union.
Charles will be remembered for his joyful spirit, boundless creativity, and generous heart. He brought warmth and laughter to every gathering, often delighting his family by dressing up as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. His radiant smile and signature curly hair were unforgettable, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Gifted in mathematics, Charles had a brilliant mind but found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life—farming alongside his father, casting a line while fishing, hunting in the great outdoors, and sharing card games and dominoes with those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Willie Ruth Ikerd; his sister, Margaret Ikerd; and his brother, Robert “Bobby” Ikerd.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in his siblings: Barbara Ikerd, Patricia Ikerd, Willie Carnes, Paula Ferguson, Sherilyn Washington (Kevin), and George Ikerd (Jackie), all of Kansas City, Kansas.
He was a proud father to four daughters: Rachel Ikerd of Orange, TX; Jackie Ikerd of Lawrence, KS; Dawn Denise of Kansas City, KS; and Shannon Ikerd of Lawrence, KS.
Charles’ memory will also live on through his grandchildren—Joseph Snodgrass of Harlem, NY; Rashaad Carter of Beaumont, TX; and Aris Batts (also known as Aris Kay) of Hartford, CT—as well as two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Charles’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and faith. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
