Calvin Meeks

Calvin Meeks was born on February 25, 1961, in Kansas City, Kansas to Orange and Syretta Meeks. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas where he attended Dunbar Elementary School, Northeast Middle School, and later Sumner High School. Calvin spent his childhood surrounded by a large and loving family that remained an important part of his life throughout the years.

Calvin entered the workforce alongside his family at Meeks and Son Construction, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication. He later worked as a maintenance laborer for Wilson Concrete before continuing his career at Tasty Bread. No matter where he worked, Calvin took pride in doing his job well and earning an honest living.

If you knew Calvin, you knew he loved the Lord and knew his Bible well. He was baptized at Primitive Baptist Church in Shawnee, Kansas, and later became a faithful member of House of Prayer Evangelistic Church under the leadership of Bishop Benard Crawford Jr. He also liked things neat and clean. He believed everything had its place and wasn't afraid to straighten things up himself. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. Calvin enjoyed all sports, especially basketball, and was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved to skate and was known for being good at it. Family gatherings often included a spirited game of dominoes, and Calvin was convinced he was the Domino King of the family.

He also loved to dance. He may not have always caught the beat, but that never stopped him from getting out on the dance floor and enjoying himself. Above all else, Calvin was a man of peace. He disliked controversy, violence, and strife, preferring laughter, love, and getting along with everyone around him.

As much as Calvin enjoyed life's simple pleasures, nothing meant more to him than his family. He loved spending time with those he loved and never hesitated to help someone in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and those closest to him often said he would literally give you the shirt off his back. That giving spirit wasn't something Calvin turned on and off, it was simply who he was. His kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love for others will forever be remembered by everyone blessed to know him.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Orange Meeks and Syretta Meeks; his brother, Reginald Wayne Meeks; and his sister, Alphadean Howard.

Calvin leaves to cherish his precious memories his son, Calvin Deonte Meeks; his granddaughter, Yahdrie Meeks; brothers, Orange Meeks, Albert Curtis Meeks (Alice), and Ray Anthony Meeks (Benice); sisters, Ernestine Woodard, Richa McKinney, Yvonne Mansfield Bass (Herbert), Brenda Berry, Bridget Bass Garlington (Ray), and Deborah Kay Meeks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
