Benjamin F. Garlington Jr, 86, passed away on June 9, 2023, at his home in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on November 17, 1936, in Hattieville, Arkansas to Benjamin F. Garlington, Sr. and Anna L. Byers Garlington. Benjamin grew up and attended Center School in Hattieville, Arkansas.
Benjamin began working for Bill Long Construction as a laborer where he worked for 40 years. Benjamin continued to work until he retired on June 20, 2007, after 40 years.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and professed the Christian faith, and united with New Prospect Baptist Church. He was an active member of the choir and a quartet singer.
Benjamin married Mae Esther Salsberry on August 18, 1956, in Arkansas. They were happily married for 66 years.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin F Garlington Sr., and Anna L. Byers; brothers, Rufus Calvin “RC” Garlington, Leon Garlington, Avon M. Garlington, Sherman Garlington, Thurman (Boat) Garlington, Ladell Garlington, and Sister Mary Alice Wallace.
At Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, he enjoyed singing in the Male Chorus and was an active member of the Deacon Board, Trustee and the Finance committee, the Bus ministry, and the 50-cent pop ministry until his health begin to fail.
Benjamin is survived by his spouse Mae Esther Salsberry of Kansas City, Kansas; his two daughters, Carolyn Garlington of Kansas City, Kansas, and Lisa Bosby (Willie) of Grandview, MO; his two sons, Ray Garlington (Bridgette) of Kansas City, Kansas; Stanley Garlington (Lisa) of Shawnee, Kansas; his brothers, Wayne Garlington (Juliette) and Truman Garlington (Marsetta); his sisters, Dorthelia Daniels, Vanessa Spencer both of Kansas City, Kansas and Lilian Moore (Wilbur of Morrilton, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
