CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF BEATRICE WANJIRU KIGERA:
BIRTH:
Beatrice Wanjiru Kigera, was born on November 3, 1969, and was the youngest child of the late Mr. Francis Macharia (Gatonga) and Grace Wanjiru Macharia (Mama Sarah). She was a sister to the late Sarah Macharia, Peter Kariuki, the late John Waweru, Noah Mugwe, and Eddah Gitau.
CHRISTIANITY:
Beatrice was baptized in infancy on July 13th at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) St. John Church in Kiambaa. Her Godparents were the late Lay Leader Bedan Mutara and his wife, Grace Mutara, and she continued to be a regular Church member throughout her youth. Beatrice was later confirmed by the late Bishop Sosipater Magua at St. John’s Church, Kiambaa.
Beatrice was a regular and devoted member of Englewood Baptist Church, Independence, Missouri actively participating in its various ministries and services. Her consistent presence and engagement made her a familiar and cherished figure within the church community.
EDUCATION:
Beatrice commenced her education at the Aga Khan School in 1977, followed by primary schooling at Madaraka Girls Boarding School in Thika from 1978 to 1985. Upon successful completion of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, she qualified to join The Kenya High School - Boma (1986-1989). Subsequently, she undertook her Advanced Level studies (Forms 5 and 6) at Loreto Convent Msongari from 1991 to 1992.
EMPLOYMENT:
Following the completion of her secondary education, she obtained employment at Barclays Bank, Industrial Area branch. Later, she started a Curio business which saw her travel to various European countries like Spain and Portugal, and subsequently, when she got married, she founded and operated a hardware business in Uthiru for a considerable number of years until she relocated to America.
MARRIAGE:
The late Beatrice wedded the love of her life, John Mucene Kigera on 15th January 1995 at ACK. Emmanuel church, Karuri, Kenya. She was blessed and devoted to her three children: Alec “Chuma” Kigera, Steven Macharia, and Daniel Kariuki, and whom she cherished and constantly spoke of them with lots of pride – some friends referred to her as “Mama Boys.”
LIFE IN THE U.S.A.:
The late Beatrice Kigera embarked on a journey to the United States with her family in February 2001, and eventually chose Independence, Missouri, as their new home. Beatrice dedicated her professional life to compassionate care, working as a Hospice Nurse Aide in various skilled nursing facilities.
DEATH:
Beatrice had not been feeling very well for a couple of weeks and had sought professional help and was undertaking some medication. Unfortunately, on Monday, April 21st, 2025, she was discovered unresponsive at her residence by one of her sons.
