Barbara Jones Obituary

Barbara Orange Jones, 94, passed away on May 31, 2024, at Brookdale Rosehill in Shawnee, Kansas. She was born on May 2, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Grady and Ruth Orange. Barbara grew up in  Louisiana and graduated from Gilbert Academy in New Orleans,  Louisiana in 1946. After high school, she attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where she received a degree in English in 1950 and began working for Universal Life Insurance Company as a secretary.

Barbara was involved in many charities and organizations. She was a member of Kaw Valley Medical Society Auxiliary, a member of club Impromptu, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She served as secretary of the Kaw Valley Arts Council, secretary of Community General Hospital, president of the Wyandotte  County Medical Society Auxiliary and served as secretary and International Health chairman. Barbara was also a board member of  Providence St. Margaret Health Center auxiliary and a former Vice President and chairman of  Community Council for United Way, a board member of Boys Club of Kansas City, Kansas, board member of Women’s division of the Kansas City Philharmonic (KC, MO) Young Audiences, board member of the Friends of the Philharmonic KC, KS and on the National Advisory Board of the Professional Children’s School of New York City.

Barbara married Dr. Herman H. Jones in 1950 in Alexandria, LA and were happily married for 70 years. They enjoyed traveling to various countries.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Herman Harvey Jones and her parents Ruth and Grady D. Orange.

Barbara is survived by her children, Dr. Herman H. Jones III (Connie) of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Dwayne E. Jones (Lisa) of Shawnee, Kansas, Pamela Denise Jones of New York City, Donna E. Jones Badocchi (Claudio) of  Milan, Italy; her grandchildren, Kimberly Jones, Arianna Badocchi, Camilla Badocchi, Francesco Badocchi, Vincent Jones, Spencer Jones, Paige Jones and Julian Jones; her niece Sandra Abrams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
