Bessie Bell Harris (née White), was born on January 15, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Emogene Dumas and Welford Samuel White Sr. & Stepfather Artemis Gray Sr. who proceeds her in death along with her two sisters Welfretta Jean Flournoy and Birdie Diane Kearney and her grandson Kenneth Elmer Taylor lV.
Bessie passed peacefully on September 10, 2024, at age 78.
Bessie graduated from Sumner High School in 1964 and dedicated many years working as a cashier at Price Chopper and CVS/Osco. Her work ethic and friendly demeanor made her a favorite among her colleagues and customers.
Bessie was a beloved member of Strangers Rest Baptist Church as well her community, known for her kind, generous, funny, and loving nature. Bessie had a zest for life, enjoying hobbies such as watching college football, resting in her big comfy chair, eating gummy orange slices, traveling, putting together puzzles, taking care of her family, hosting holiday dinners, taking pictures, and dancing. Her home was always filled with love and
laughter, especially during the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emagene Gray and Welford Samuel White SR., Stepfather Artemus Gray Sr.; grandchild, Kenneth Elmer Taylor IV; and siblings, Welfretta Jean Flournoyand Birdie Diane Kearney.
Bessie is survived by her children, Carole Patrice Taylor, Kevin Maurice Harris (Renita Harris), & Steven Jermaine White; siblings, Welford Samuel White Jr., William Matthew White (Sharon White), Artemus Gray Jr. (Barbara Gray), Jesse Fredrick Gray (GwenGray), and Pattie Jo Gray.; grandchildren, Kenisha Taylor, Devin Harris, Jasmine White, Ramon Harris, Tamarah White, Kenneth Taylor V, Dylan Harris, Au'Niyah Caldwell, Naomi Taylor, Heaven Taylor, and Amir Campbell. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others she raised as her own.
