I AM JUST MARIE
B. MARIE GRANT
Mrs. B. Marie Grant of Kansas City, Missouri passed away in the morning of January 10, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Dr. Pamela Grant of Topeka, Kansas. Finally, with no more weddings to coordinate, events to organize, fashions to be worn or words to be arranged into poetic verse, she has moved on to join her husband Joe, her mother, father, maternal grandmother, and brothers who are waiting for her to join them and organize their affairs in the hereafter.
She was born on September 17, 1927 in Blytheville Arkansas. She was raised in East Saint Louis, Illinois and moved to Kansas City, Kansas and finally Kansas City, Missouri following her marriage to her husband Joseph Scott Grant.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri and her Master’s Degree from UMKC. She retired from the Kansas City Missouri School District as a Principal of D.M. Pinkerton Latin Grammar Elementary Magnet School. She began her career in education as a home- school coordinator, counselor, elementary school teacher, administrative coordinating instructor and an assistant principal.
She was very active in her church, Metropolitan Baptist Temple in Kansas City, Kansas and the community at large. She was known for her love of fashion and her ability to organize a celebration whether it be for a wedding or a remembrance gathering. She was known for her easy rapport and ability to engage even total strangers in conversation. She was a memorable force, who could not venture out without running into someone who was once a former student and had to stop to thank her for being his/her teacher and inspiring him/her to achieve. She was a member of the Deltas
As in life, she left detailed instructions regarding her own celebration.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita Grant of Cloquet, Minnesota; Pamela Grant of Topeka, Kansas; and an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.
