Anthony (Tony) Edgar, 70, passed away on, October 16, 2023, at NHC Healthcare, Parklane] in Dentsville, South Carolina. He was born on June 14, 1953 in Kansas City, KS to Lincoln Edgar and Marie Wooten.
Anthony grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS in 1972. After high school he:
● began work for Carl Otten and Sons (affectionately known as “Egg Man”) as a supervisor where he worked for many years until their closing and started working for the Kansas City Housing Authority in the early 1990s where he retired in 2012.
Anthony married Lowanta Bolton right out of high school in June 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri. They were married for 4 years. Catina Edgar (Searcy) was born October 12, 1972 to this union.
Anthony met Glenda Holliday in 1981 and they were married on November 5, 1982, in Kansas City, Kansas. They were married for 22 years. Anthony gained a bonus daughter, Shanda Holliday (McConnell) and Marci Edgar (Millsap) was born June 22, 1983 to this union.
Anthony and Glenda were foster parents for two decades. They ministered together at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for years and would take turns with friends hosting bible studies in each other’s homes. He loved helping others more than himself and Anthony truly loved the Lord with all his heart! It was important to him that his family knew God and he ensured they had a foundation in church.
Anthony was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kansas for two decades prior to relocating to South Carolina to live with his youngest daughter, Marci. Anthony faithfully served as a deacon, laymen and provided janitorial services at Bethel Baptist for numerous years . He enjoyed cooking and preparing large meals as if it were Thanksgiving every Sunday. Anthony took pride in his children’s appearance and ironed and starched their clothes into their high school years. He was involved in the community attending neighborhood meetings as it was important to him to know his neighbors. Anthony was Kaw Valley Laymen’s “Man of the Year” and received various awards and recognition for his service with the Kaw Valley district.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Marie Edgar; siblings, James (Jimmy) Wooten, Lincoln Edgar Jr, Rosemary Edgar; daughter Catina Searcy; and grandson, Lincoln Edgar.
Anthony is survived by his daughters Shanda McConnell (Adrian) of Kansas City, Kansas; Marci Millsap (Jermaine) of Columbia, South Carolina; his siblings Julia Edgar-Montgomery of Stockton, California, Charles Edgar of Kansas City, Missouri, Neil Edgar of Kansas City, Kansas, Patricia Edgar-Walker of Kansas City, Kansas and Carolyn Edgar-Black of Kansas City, Kansas his aunt Dorothy Johnson - Wooten of Kansas City, Missouri. Grandchildren Siron Prentis Lee Anthony, Sausha People, Avery Edgar, Calei McConnell, Jamya Millsap and Jeremaine Millsap, Jr.; his great-grandchildren Lenise Anthony, Lenzie Anthony, (Leilani Anthony) and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and other relatives.
A celebration for the life of Anthony Edgar will be held at Antioch Baptist Church 1335 Quindaro Blvd, Kansas City, Kansas 66104 at 11:00 AM central standard time on Saturday, October 28, 2023, preceded by a viewing/ visitation from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the celebration service at Highland Park Cemetery 3801 State Ave. Kansas City, KS 66102.
