Anthony Hampton Obituary

Anthony J. Hampton was born January 17, 1967, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the younger of the two children born to the union of Julius Hampton and Gloria J. (Edgely) Hampton. His father, Julius Hampton, preceded him in death.

As a baby Anthony loved his big brother Cedric and liked popping him in the head with his bottle. Anthony attended Parker Elementary School and loved sports. He tried his hand at most of them and although he was small in stature, he wasn’t afraid to stand up to bigger boys or come to the rescue of smaller kids who were getting bullied. Anthony accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized in Jesus’ name at Victorious Life Church, formerly Christ Temple, under the pastorate of the late Bishop Lee A. Tolbert. Gloria and the boys relocated to Romulus, Michigan for a brief time, but returned to Kansas City, where Anthony graduated from F.L. Schlagle High School.

Anthony attended Kansas City Kansas Community College but decided to join the United States Army in 1985. Anthony served with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea from 1986-87, after which he served with the 101 St Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Cannon Crewmember for ten years. Before Seargeant(E-6) Anthony Hampton aka/Hamp Dog received his Honorable Discharge on March 14, 1996, he had earned numerous awards and medals as follows; three Army Achievement Medals, M-16 Rifle Expert Badge, Air Assault Badge, three Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Southeast Asia Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Professional Development Ribbon, two Army Service Ribbons, Saudi/Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Anthony married the love of his life Betty Strong-Hampton, but  Anthony’s military life was not conducive to their relationship and later divorced. Anthony didn’t have any children from this union, but he loved his nieces and nephews as though they were his own. After leaving the military Anthony went to work for the Kansas Board of Public Utilities until his health caused him to retire. Anthony loved his pet canine called “J” and enjoyed polishing his ventage automobile. Anthony was marksman and gun collector. He enjoyed spending time at the shooting range with his brother and friends. In 2013 Anthony fell in love again and married Pamela Greene-Hampton of Kansas City, Kansas. There were no children from this union.

On August 29, 2025, the Lord called Anthony to his eternal home. He leaves to cherish in loving memories; his mother Gloria J. Edgely-Mizell, one brother Cedric Hampton, uncles: Andre Hampton, Terry Edgely (Linda) aunts; Kathy Edgely, Darline Edgely (preceded in death), Jackie Jones, Stephanie Scruggs, nephew; Julian (Keisha), nieces; Tiffany Hampton-Holt (Ronnie), Tykeia Hampton, great-nephews; Teriyn Hampton, Omari Hampton, great-nieces; Tajahnae Holt, Tanayza Holt, Kelcie Whidy, Melina Hampton, Nova Hampton, Patience Hampton, and a host of cousins, other family, and friends.
