On Monday, September 29, 2025, our beloved Annie Lee Blount went home to be with the Lord. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas, to Warzell and Dorothy A. Blount and was the ninth of fifteen children.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings: Julia L. Blount, Equilla Blount, Margaret E.N. Blount, Linda J. Craig, Christine Gore, Warzell Blount Jr., Joyce A. Danna, Mary A. Wilson, and three nephews, John A. Blount, Enorch Johnson Jr, and Lorenzo Johnson.
Annie received her early education in Kansas City’s private school system. She attended Our Lady of Saint Rose Elementary and Blessed Sacrament School. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1975. In 1981, she earned an associate’s degree from Donnelly College. Annie furthered her education and skills by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), dedicating her life to caring for others.
Throughout her career in healthcare, Annie worked at Caring Hearts Home Health, Bryant Butler Kitchen Nursing Home (1986-1989), Bethany Medical Center (1980), At Your Service Home Health, Kaw Valley Manor Nursing Home (2004), and Kaw Valley for pediatric behavioural and mental health care (2007). She was known for her compassion and commitment to her patients.
She shared a longstanding relationship with Michael Courtney, and from their union, two sons were born. She loved them both, unconditionally. Mrs. Daisy Courtney-Moore was a life long friend, whom she loved as a second mother.
Annie will be fondly remembered as the heart of the family — lively, loving, and full of joy. She cherished time spent with loved ones, especially playing board games, card games, and her favorite: Farkle 10,000. She had a deep love for blues and gospel music, and will always be affectionately remembered as “Annie B. “A” to the B”!
She loved celebrating birthdays, and if yours was marked on her calendar, you could count on receiving a heartfelt message from her—always ending with, “God loves you, and I do too.” Annie was a devoted Christian who wholeheartedly accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, living out her faith with love, joy, and sincerity.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Myron K. Courtney (Kim) and Byron M. Courtney; A Goddaughter, London Smith, four brothers, MSG (Ret.) Cecil D. Blount, Glen W. Blount, Kenneth Blount (Tricia), and Robert Blount; two sisters, Cecilia Blount and D. Marie Watson (Carlos); Grandchildren: Keisha Courtney, Mya Courtney, Austyn Courtney, Ariya Courtney and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Her spirit, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
