Andrea Regina (Johnson) Downs was born on June 22, 1959 in Kansas City, Kansas to Preston Johnson and Mae B. Perkins in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was the oldest of three girls.

Andrea was known to all who knew and loved her as “Gina”.  She was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District 500, attending Hawthorne Elementary, Northwest Junior High and Wyandotte High School in the “Class of 1977”.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Calvary Baptist Church under the late Pastor Bowen.  Later uniting with 47th Street Baptist Church under the leadership of her late stepfather Charles E. Mitchell, Sr.

On December 1, 1991 Gina married Roger Downs, Jr. to this union 2 children were born. Gina and Roger were parents of 4 children and were married for 30 years. Gina enjoyed playing softball, gin rummy, dominoes, skating, fishing, and twostepping with her husband.

Gina was raised in a household where singing was heard every day, she never told anyone she wanted to sing. She finally became a member of the “Perkins Sisters” Gospel Group and enjoyed it until her health began to fail.

She worked for Woolco, Ventures, Gates and enjoyed people.  She was definitely a no-nonsense person. She raised 4 boys that knew not to try her, but they also knew that she loved them.  She was a joker at times.

She departed this life April 16, 2021 at K.U. Medical Center.  She was preceded in death by her  father, Preston Johnson, her mother, Mae B. (Perkins) Mitchell and stepfather Rev. Charles E. Mitchell, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory; her husband, Roger Downs, Jr.; (4) sons, Damian Westbrooks (Michelle); De’Marcus Downs, Sr. (LaCrecia); Mar’quise Downs (Khadijah) all of KCKS and Sean Burris (Natasha) of Raytown, Missouri; two sisters; Tammara Kemp Williams, Las Vegas, NV, and Carmen Davis (Edward) of Kansas City, Kansas. (3) brothers, Steve Harris, Darryl Pratt and Terry Johnson; (1) stepbrother, Charles E. Mitchell, Jr.,(4) step sisters; Paula Gentry (Dewayne) of Little Rock, AR, Wonder Golden of KCKS, Faye Alsup, (Thurston), Liberal, KS, Regina Mitchell, Evansville, IN; (2) uncles , Shelby Johnson and Henry Perkins; (5) aunts ; Doris L. Davis (Frank), Lois Rogers, Margaret Hood, Melbra Lewis and Delbra Greer-Spivey (Donald); grandchildren, De’Marcus Down, Jr. (DJ), Sean Burris, Jr., Kadence Bowie, L’Ryhk Downs, L’Dreah Downs, Diamond Sanders; nieces/nephews, Shantell Williams, Tyra Davis, Asia Davis, Cashmere Davis (CASH), Camarri Davis, De’Ovian Bryant, Cameron Davis, Jeremy Davis and a host of other relatives and friends.
