We celebrate the life of Alfreda (Brown) Pearl who passed away on March 9, 2026, peacefully in her home. Alfreda was born May 3, 1956 in Washington, DC, to James Matthew Brown and Fannie Mae (Price) Brown.
Alfreda mother passed away when she was 14 years old and she moved in with her uncle William Price. Then she moved to Petersburg, VA with her grandmother, where she graduated high school.
Alfreda worked at restaurants and worked as an elevator operator. She joined the Army at 22 and stationed in Germany and toured all of Europe. She spent 6 years in the military and when she was discharged in Fort Leavenworth, KS she decided to make a home in Kansas. She was a respirator therapist in the VA hospital in Topeka, KS and then a rehabilitation nurse at the VA hospital in Leavenworth, KS.
Five years after Alfreda was discharged, she met Clifford Pearl. He was delivering to Lawrence KS at Checkers around mid-night. She worked a night shift there in Lawrence. She caught his eye and he walked up to her and said “Excuse me ma’am, are you married” and ask for her number. She declined giving her number to him, but she took his and called him a couple months later. After six months they had their first date. That day, she said that she did not have time to go on the date because she had to wash her car and then he offered to wash and detail her car so that they could go on the date. They then later married after a year of dating, and they were married for 33 years. She always lived in apartments and never lived in a house, and Clifford built her a house, and she made it a home, and they lived happily together until her passing.
Alfreda never had children, but she loved her dogs Missy and Lya who truly miss her. She enjoyed being busy since her husband was a long-haul trucker. She was a businesswoman and her rental properties kept her very busy.
Alfreda preceded in death by her parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents.
Alfreda leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Clifford Pearl; her brother, Farha A Salahuddin; her cousins, William Floyd Price, Jr., Valerie Kirkwood and Wendy Dozier; and her furry children Missy and Lya.
