Aldoria Ann Allen was born on August 3, 1936, on a farm in Tonganoxie, Kansas, to Clifton and Alberta Allen. She is the oldest and the only girl with two younger brothers, Clifton Jr. and Alonzo.
Aldoria would move slowly so she could get sent back into the house, so she wouldn’t have to help in the garden. Aldoria would rather read books than do domestic jobs.
Aldoria attended elementary and middle school in Tonganoxie. She graduated from Sumner High School with other Black students.
Aldoria, through a mutual friend, she met Vernell Lindesay. They married in 1955 and had four children: Alberta, Saundra, LeAnne, and Vernell.
On February 3, 1975, Vernell Lindesay passed away. This day changed the life of Aldoria and her children. In 1975, Aldoria accepted the Lord as her Savior, believing God would make a way for her to provide and care for her children.
Aldoria furthered her education and received a master’s degree in social work. Aldoria had various jobs: she worked at Providence Hospital as a secretary, at the battered women's shelter, and at Black Adoptions. Being a social worker filled her days with joy. She enjoyed going to the thrift stores to get prizes for her students to encourage them to do their best. When they showed good behavior, they picked from the prize box.
In 1986, Aldoria married Edward Gilbert. They traveled to Oklahoma and Nicodemus, Kansas, where they drank hot coffee early in the morning to start their day. Mr. Edward Gilbert passed away in 2010.
Aldoria had many ministries, including the Pioneer Club at Christ Temple Church, and spearheading the Christmas and Easter programs. She also led the Good News Club, teaching about God in different schools in the Kansas City Area.
Aldoria enjoyed camping at Perry Lake in her yellow truck with the canopy shell, taking LeAnne and Vernell (Top Cat) with their dirt bikes.
Aldoria had many travel excursions: exploring ancient ruins in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta, experiencing culture and culinary arts in Africa, shopping in Hawaii, taking a train ride on the Alaska Railroad, and cruising was her favorite way to travel.
Aldoria was called home peacefully on the 28th of November, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernell Lindesay Sr. (married for 20 years), and her second husband, Edward Gilbert (married for 24 years). Also preceding her were her beloved daughters, Alberta Gilliard and Saundra Lindesay; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen; and brothers, Clifton Allen Jr., Alonzo Allen and O.C. Allen.
Aldoria leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, LeAnne Lindesay (Walter) Clark, and her son, Vernell (Monica) Lindesay (also known as “Top Cat”), who lovingly cared for her every day with joy. She is also survived by a host of beloved grandchildren, Ja'Nae, Le'Nae, James, Janell, Jarreau, Ariana Clark, Kiera, Gavin, Morgan, and Kylen; her great-grandchildren, Tamir, Titan, Journey, Israel, Ray, Rai'Vyn, Raidyn, Riley, Jayaire, Myelle, Ace, Mikaila, Tavia, Jayce, Jaela, Brielle, Kavel, Khalif, Kader, Karson, Makai and Kiyair.
