Life’s Reflection

Zelma LaVern Marks 70, passed away on October 30, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. 

She was born on February 16, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas to Fred L. Marks and Ruby Elizabeth Lois Spencer Marks.  Zelma grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating from Argentine High School after high school she attended college where she received a degree in Data Entry.  Upon graduation Zelma began to work for Commerce Bank as a Data Processor, where she worked for ten years.  Zelma also worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and Truman Medical Center, where she retired in 2011 after over twenty years of service.

Zelma was an active member of Second Metropolitan Baptist Church and was involved in Worth While Culture Club, Second Metropolitan Choir, Book Club, Usher Board, Senior Saints, a member of MADD, and Cancer Awareness (Susan B. Komen Foundation). 

Zelma never married.  She enjoyed reading, shopping, taking relaxing vacations, and helping others in need.  Zelma also received many accolades and praise for her excellent skills.

Zelma was preceded in death by her father, Fred L. Marks; mother, Ruby Elizabeth Lois Marks; brothers, Harold Holmes, Jr.;  Fred Marks, Jr.; and Richard Marks, Sr.

Zelma is survived by her son, Arthur Wayne Marks of Columbus, Ohio; her Goddaughter, Kayla Boykin (Reginal); Tre and Khali all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her brothers, Arthur Marks (Joyce); Robert Marks (Sheila); Ronald Marks; Phillip Marks; her sisters, Beverly Mitchell (Dwight); Carol Brown; Alice Spears (Richard, Sr.); Ruth Easterwood (Robert, Sr.); and Shirley Marks; her nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives; friends, and her besties, Roy; Jackie; and Glenda Kay.
