Life’s Reflections
Theodore J. Robinson, Sr. 83 passed away on July 20, 2018 at 02:15 P.M. at home with his family by his side in Kansas City, Kanas. He was born on July 9, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Farell Frank and Gladys Owens Robinson. Theodore grew up in Boley, Oklahoma. He graduated from Boley High School in Boley Oklahoma. He attended Kansas City Kansas Community College where he received an Associate Degree in Arts. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and served for twenty-two years. While serving in the Army, Theodore spent four years with his family in Hawaii and had the honor of becoming a Mason. He also served in both the Vietnam and the Korean Wars. Theodore was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal Award, Army Commendation Medal Award, and Certificate of Honorable Discharge. He retired in 1975 after achieving the rank of Staff Sgt. 1st Class.
After retiring from the military service, he worked for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department as a Patrol Officer and later for the Kansas City, Kansas Sheriff’s Department as a Correctional Officer and a Training Deputy until he retired in 1988.
Theodore married LaVerne Courtney in 1957 in Kansas City, Kansas at Metropolitan Baptist Church. They were happily married for sixty years.
Theodore was a member of Christ Church of the New Covenant, 50-year lifetime member of Masonic Lodge Orient 19, Pride of the West Lodge #53, lifetime member of the VFW, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Blacks in Government, American Legion Post 0327 and Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed electronics and family related activities.
Theodore was preceded in death by his father, Farell Frank Robinson; his mother, Glady O. Robinson; mother-in-law, Birdie Harris Courtney Allen; brother-in-law, Wilfred Courtney, Sr.; Uncle, Archie Jones and Aunt, Marie Jones; cousin, Sharon Wyatt-Jones.
Theodore leaves to cherish in love and memory his wife, LaVerne Courtney-Robinson; children, Belinda Robinson-Brown of Dallas, Texas; Theodore J. Robinson, Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas; Carol R. Pinzon-Robinson of Houston, Texas; Ronald R. Robinson of Kansas City, Kansas; David R. Robinson (Angela) of Kansa City, Kansas; grandchildren, Renita Brown; William Pinzon (Ashelea); Janeese Brown; DeAngela Robinson; Ashley Robinson; Jessica Robinson; great grandchildren, Kyla Brown and Ava Pinzon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
